Since Leopold Nowak's publication of the first version of the Eighth, it has become generally accepted that the various versionsare all authentic works in their own right, reflecting a "conceptual trasformation" in Bruckner's symphonic writing. The first complete performance of Bruckner's Eighth Symphony in 1887 version took place in London on 2 September 1973 under the baton of Hans-Hubert Schonzeler.
