Amid the broad sandy steppes of Central Asia the strange, tranquil sound of a Russian folksong stirs the desert silence. A distant plod of horses and camels may be perceived accompanied by oriental strains. Escorted by a troop of Russian soldiers, a native caravan passes on its long and tedious journey through the vast expanse of desert now growing fainter as it disappears over the horizon. Russian and oriental melodies now engage in a charming duet, only to be rejoined by the penetrating hush of the arid desert air.
